Tragedy of India on its 62nd Independence day!

As we celebrate our 62nd Independence day, India continues to sink into a deeper and deeper mess of our own making. This tragedy is aptly symbolized by what is the top news item of the day on our news channels - 'Shah Rukh Khan detained at Newark Airport'. This has been higher in the priority above - the PM's speech, bomb blast in Kabul, Independence day celebrations across the nation, Drought situation in several states of India, and the much publicised Swine flu epidemic as well! It is a moot point if Indians wanted it in this order of priority or our dear media friends have thrust it upon us.

Why is it so tragic if this is the topmost news item? Because it scores over the following issues that are more important for the future of Indian nation

... less than an year ago we faced a gruesome attack on our commercial capital and there has been no action whatsoever against the perpetrators across borders or their supporters ..while scores continue to die in every part of India ..victims of terrorism

... the biggest fraud in Indian business history (discovered) was identified only a few months ago and there is absolutely no news of any punishment against the guilty or any sytemic changes to prevent such frauds

... life in India is totally in the hands of politico-criminals who are growing with impunity and the media does not deem it fit to raise any voice about it ... these criminals are internal terrorist who have destroyed India and will continue to do so with impunity

...While squatters in cities like Mumbai get pampered for votes, the honest tax paying citizen is being squeezed

... Real estate prices have been artifically inflated and now its impossible for a government servant to buy a house in Mumbai or its suburbs (unless he or she is corrupt and in a lucrative position)

...Police postings are sold to the highest bidder (purportedly) and media has nothing to say about it

....Farmers die, the ruling coalition bribes by using tax payer money to waive loans, and after the elections the farmers still continue die

Has India lost it's sense of purpose or is it the media alone?

What about Mr. Dutt - Convicted and Punished not just accused

Why has the media not taken exception to a convicted crimimal being glorified and given a ticket for Lok Sabha elections?

Why has there been no discussion about the 'morality' of a tainted cricketer getting a ticket?

Disgusting!

India has been destroyed by a thousand cuts - not by Pakistan

What do the statistics say? Hindus number about 827,578,868 amounting to 80.5% of Indian population, yet they seem to be increasingly helpless in facing the onslaught on their beliefs, values and way of living. Why?

Contrary to popular belief Hindus are not in majority in India - no I am not crazy and this is not an accident - India has been divided systemically and irreversibly (in the short run). The notion of 'Unity in Diversity' that Pandit Nehru celebrated is also the foundation of electoral success for the ruling parties in India - except for a brief period from 1999-2004. This concept has beeen twisted by Nehru's successors so cynically and methodically that the very nation state of India stands defeated today.

Hindus are not allowed to be just Hindus in India! A Hindu's identity as a Hindu is never recognized or important in the system. He is never allowed to be just a Hindu, he is cut and split and accorded multiple labels. And mind you these are not only due to inherent divisions within Hindus - these divisions are systemically created and enforced for electoral gains. A careful schema of patronage via reservations and concessions has been created to enforce these divisions.

- Linguistic division of states and the state wise education system ensured the first cut

- Caste based reservations ensured rewards for the larger castes to split from so called 'upper' castes and marginalized the tiny 'upper' castes who had the education and ability to unite Hindus

- Providing concessions for 'linguistic' minorities in Hindu majority states ensured that these groups never share a common identity with the local majority population

- and more such measures at every level

There is no single caste or linguistic group within Hindus that is greater than 13.4% of population that stands united as a single group and votes as a single group! Thus making every Hindu a part of minority but always made to carry the burden of being a majority!

When the majority of a nation is divided, it cannot be strong in a democratic setup... and that is what is happening today! Only money can unite Indians and money has a habit of not staying at one place for too long.

Unfortunately, this 'reality' will not change for several generations ... but a beginning can be made by defeating the parties and politicians who fight caste-based politics!

Where are the 'secular' leaders gone?

Mumbai was attacked, mutiliated, and terrorized over last 72 hours by the acts of a band of soldiers - yes well trained soldiers who came to wage a war on Mumbai and India. As a Mumbaikar, anguish, shock, anger and disgust were some of the feelings that kept me from sleeping well ... the only saving grace was I and my family were alive.

But one thought has been bothering me and has come to the fore with full force as the drama on the screen subsided ... Where are our so-called secular leaders? Where are the human rights advocates gone? Where are those who shouted at the top of their lungs and with glee in eyes about Hindu terrorism gone? Am I not human that I do not fall in their radar? Am I not Indian? Am I not terrorized? Were the people who died not worthy of any right to safety, security, and life? Were they not humans or Indians?

Will one of the following come forward and answer -

Mr. Sharad Pawar - Are you not the seniormost and most powerful leader of Maharashtra? Why did we not see any leadership from you?
Mr. Sanjay Nirupam - Are you not supposed to be the voice of Hindi speaking people in Mumbai? Doesn't that voice have to say anything about this incident?
Ms. Shabana Azmi - Are you not the most vocal voice of the minority? Do you not condemn this?
Mr. Javed Akhtar - What does your bleeding heart say about this carnage?
Mr. Amar Singh - Were you not the one who condemned Mumbai Police for taking action against a gun-totting 'kid'? Do you think Mumbai police was wrong this time too?
Ms. Jaya Bachchan - Admitted that you are from UP, but don't you care for fellow Mumbaikars?
Mr. Bachchan - With due respect, you felt like keeping a gun to protect yourselves, did you not feel anything for your fellow Mumbaikars? Will you ask your close family friends named above why they are keeping silent?

The following need not respond ...
Ms. Teesta Setalwad
Ms. Brinda Karat
Mr. Prakash Karat
Lalu Prasad
Ram Vilas Paswan
